Our main campus is located in Cleveland, Ohio, established and today, with nearly 1,400 beds on Cleveland Clinic main campus and 5,895 beds system-wide, Cleveland Clinic is one of the largest and most respected hospitals in the country.
The Cleveland Clinic is an American academic medical center based in Cleveland, Ohio. Owned and operated by the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, an Ohio nonprofit corporation established in 1921, it runs a 170 acre campus in Cleveland, as well as 11 regional hospitals and 19 family health centers in northeast Ohio, and hospitals in Florida and Nevada. Tomislav Mihaljevic is the president and CEO.
In Florida, Cleveland Clinic welcomed four new hospitals from Indian River and Martin Health in 2019.
Outside the United States, Cleveland Clinic also operates the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi hospital and a sports medicine clinic in Toronto. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is expanding into cancer care. And Cleveland Clinic London is scheduled to open in 2021.
Throughout 2018, Cleveland Clinic cared for more than 2 million patients – the highest annual total in its history. Operating revenue increased 6.2 percent to $8.9 billion. Contributions to state and local economies – in the form of jobs, wages and taxes – totaled $17.8 billion.
In 2019, Cleveland Clinic employs 66,000 caregivers worldwide, including 4,200 physicians and scientists, 2,800 advanced practice providers and 16,600 registered nurses.
Research and education
The Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute conducts biomedical research in a 480,000-square-foot building that opened in 1999. The Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (CCLCM) of Case Western Reserve University opened in 2004. It is a 5-year medical school in the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine with 32 students per class, each receiving a scholarship for full tuition and fees. While most MD-granting medical schools in the U.S. are four-year programs, the fifth year of CCLCM is dedicated to a year of research.
Cleveland Clinic publishes the peer-reviewed Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine monthly, focusing on internal medicine, endocrinology, and diabetes. The Top 10 Medical Innovations is an annual list (since 2007) selected in October each year by a panel of Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists. For consideration on the list, the development must be considered likely to be available to the public in the upcoming year and to be expected to have a significant impact on a large part of the population.

For the past quarter of a century, Cleveland Clinic has been ranked the No. 1 hospital for heart care according to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals. Overall, Cleveland Clinic is ranked as the No. 4 hospital in America in the Best Hospitals 2019-20 rankings, marking the 21st consecutive year Cleveland Clinic has ranked as one of the nation’s Top 5 hospitals.
U.S. News Best Hospitals ranks hospitals in 16 specialty areas; Cleveland Clinic ranked in the Top 10 in 11 specialties – Cardiology & Heart Surgery (1), Rheumatology (2), Gynecology(3), Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (4), Nephrology(4), Urology (4), Cancer (6), Pulmonology & Lung Surgery (7), Geriatrics (8), Neurology & Neurosurgery (10), and Ophthalmology (10).
