Training
Training and capacity building of health-care staff are essential to minimize the transmission of secondary infections. Staff training leads to a more informed workforce, which is the foundation for achieving higher standards of infection control. Knowledgeable staff can also help patients and visitors to understand their role in maintaining good hygiene and to become more responsible for the wastes they produce.
The overall goals of training are to:
• prevent occupational and public health exposures to the hazards associated with health-care waste;
• raise awareness of the health, safety and environmental issues relating to health-care waste;
• ensure that health-care staff are knowledgeable about best practices and technologies for health-care waste management and are able to apply them in their daily work;
• foster responsibility among all health-care workers for health-care waste management [1].
In order to face the new challenges relating Vocational Educational Training needs, Newster is developing e-learning healthcare waste training packages, suitable for use across the EU as well as in other countries worldwide.
Information and details of e-learning training platforms will be on-line soon.
