TRITON2
This month, Barker Medical focuses on TRITON2™ - a novel sputum collection device for the collection, digestion and transport of sputum specimens. The ability of a laboratory to generate a diagnostics result is greatly reliant on the quality of sample received for testing. The diagnosis of MTB from sputum samples remains challenging due to the fastidious nature of the organism itself, this compounded by the logistical challenges faced where samples collected in remote rural settings often remain in transit for more than 48 hours whilst not always being transported stored under optimal conditions. The TRITON2 sputum collection device offers the ideal solution for the transportation and storage of sputum samples - the device allows the patient to deliver his/her sputum sample directly into the primary collection and testing device. The container is labelled with patient details and sent directly to the laboratory for further analysis. The sample DOES NOT need to be transferred into an additional container for testing, thus reducing any possible transcription errors; the laboratory receives a measured, buffered and digested specimen ready for analysis!
