Just as the Romans in their time, today’s visitors to the state capital also appreciate the 26 hot springs of Wiesbaden. Their healing effect was one of the reasons why, even before preventative health measures were talked about, Wiesbaden developed into a "classic spa city". Today Wiesbaden enjoys the reputation of a recognised centre for the treatment of rheumatic and orthopaedic disorders. Many specialist and rehabilitation clinics as well as healthcare centres are based in the city.

Several of the city’s hotels, such as the Hotel Nassauer Hof and Radisson Blu Schwarzer Bock Hotel have their own thermal springs. A luxury which is of course enjoyed by the hotel guests, but also by visitors who, besides bathing in the pleasantly warm springs, can also, for instance, treat themselves to massages or other pampering treatments. Attractive opportunities to relax in various saunas or while enjoying therapies and treatments are offered both by the thermal spas Thermalbad Aukammtal and the Kaiser-Friedrich-Therme as well, which are described in detail in the chapter ”Leisure and Gastronomy”.

Due to Wiesbaden's hot springs and its great landscape of hospitals ad well-being entres the city joint the Europen Route of Hstoric Thermal Towns in 2011. The network of EHTTA is representing 50 historic thermal towns all over Europe keeping the heritage alive.
