Devolution and local growth Handing power back to Northern cities is a key part of the government’s plans to build a Northern Powerhouse. Our bold devolution agenda is transferring powers away from Westminster to local people, and we are absolutely committed to seeing it continue. We have also allocated £3.4 billion in Growth Deals to the Northern Powerhouse – providing targeted financial support to locally-determined projects in order to unlock growth – giving local people the powers and tools they need to drive forward growth for their areas.
